Reiki Healing and a Practice of Gratitude

Reiki Healing and a Practice of Gratitude

Reiki is a weird and wonderful energy that lies within us all.  This ancient Japanese technique was originally taught as a method of spiritual development and self-healing.  Reiki practitioners are trained and attuned to channel and become a vessel for its healing energy.

The most zen-like people in life consciously operate on a high vibrational plane, balanced and in tune with their own powerful energy; their life force.

The rest of us experience energy dips and peaks, often created by temporary external influences.  And that’s fine!  It’s the dips and peaks that make up life.  Embrace them!

It is true that you can’t always avoid stressful situations, and whilst most of us would struggle to function in our day-to-day lives in a zen-like trance, we could learn to deal with our everyday dips and stresses with more patience, compassion, empathy, love, energy – all the good stuff – with just a few simple techniques.

Now, there are many ways to raise your vibrations and rise above the dramas of life.  However, I’m going to keep things real simple today and introduce you to my favourite way to keep vibing high!

Gratitude – This is the most important, yet least practiced, method.  Many of us have no idea that we live a life of abundance.  Life conditions us to focus so heavily on lack – on what we don’t have.  That doesn’t mean that we have everything that we want or need.  It doesn’t mean that we do not have to save money, that we do not struggle at times or that we do not have to make sacrifices.  It means that our basic needs are met.  It means that we have the capacity to love and to be loved.  It means that we have options, opportunities and choices.

One of the best ways to connect with your higher self and to experience peace and self-acceptance is through the practice of gratitude.

I appreciate that this may be difficult to accept, depending on your individual circumstances.  So, let’s try something.  An ‘Attitude of Gratitude’ for the next seven days.  Who’s in?

Here’s what we’re going to do.  Every morning, I want you to write down three things that you are grateful for and why you are grateful for them.  Every evening, do the same thing.

Start with the big stuff: family, children, friends, support, a roof over your head, food on the table, your job (or at least your salary!).  Then get creative: the air that you breathe, your eyes to see, your legs to dance, the sun in the sky, the rain to nourish the earth and grow our crops.  It doesn’t matter what it is.  The simple act of you identifying and acknowledging that you are grateful for all of these things that you have in abundance, and thinking about why you’re grateful for them, will fill your mind with positive thoughts, your body with positive energy, and your spirit will be riding those positive vibes as high as a kite!

Seven days, stick with it and see how you feel.  The challenge is on!  Enjoy it.

Gratitude is one of many principles by which Reiki practitioners aspire to lead their lives, and we try to encourage and assist others to do likewise, if that is right for them at that time.

“Just for today, I will not anger.

Just for today, I will not worry.

Just for today, I will be grateful for all my blessings.

Just for today, I will work with honesty and integrity.

Just for today, I will be kind to all living beings.”

(Dr Mikao Usui)
