If Money Ceased to Exist…

The Western world in which we live is a world of affluence, of ownership, of possessions.  The more you have, the more you can demonstrate your worth.  The more you know, the more respect you can demand.  The more you earn, the more you can influence.  Recognition, omnipotence, riches.  What are we without such privileges?

You hear stories, you may even have experience, of once prominent, yet since fallen, high-flyers who seek an end to their suffering, an escape from this world.  These realities fill me with sadness.  There can be an overwhelming belief that one’s professional role somehow defines their value, their significance within their own life, let alone the lives of those around them, with devastating consequences.

Put the house, the car, the job, the money, the knowledge, the influence, to one side for a moment.  What remains?  Who are you without that identity?  Dig a little deeper.  What lies beneath this constructed outer layer?

Consider your goals, your dreams, and everything in life that you hold dear.  With that in mind, if money ceased to exist, would you still chase those dreams?  Where would your priorities lie?  What would change?  Who would remain in your life?

Family, true friends, deep, meaningful connections, health and wellbeing, acceptance, forgiveness, kindness.  What are you without such privileges?
